The congregation of the Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church expects to feed between 7,000 and 10,000 children throughout the community this summer.
Lee’s Summit, MO - As part of their mission and outreach programs, The Summit Church will deliver sack lunches to students in the community who may not have enough to eat. The Church will take lunches to seven different areas in the city five days each week, working in tandem with other groups to make sure that these pockets of need are served.
Pastor Jim Preisig is pleased that the church is able to continue their service to the school children in our area, even during the summer. “Through our partnership with Lee’s Summit Elementary, we provide volunteers and funding to our economically challenged families throughout the school year. This program allows us to continue that support even while the children are out of school.” He continues, “Providing these types of programs to the community allows us to fulfill our commitment to be the hands and feet of Jesus and meet the real needs of our neighbors.”
Volunteers will prepare between 120 and 150 lunches each day and will then deliver to the areas of Sage Crossing, the Lee’s Summit Elementary neighborhood, Crossroads, Knollbrook, Ridgeview Village and Maple Estates each day between 11:30 and noon. The lunches are free to anyone who asks. Volunteers will be dressed in green shirts and will have signs that indicate they are from the Summit Lunch Program.
If you have questions about the program or would like to donate, please call the church at 816-524- 4966 and ask about the Summit Lunch Program. All contributions are tax deductible and will go straight to providing the lunches.
