PAUMCS to meet at Woods Chapel this month

8/6/2012

The Professional Association of United Methodist Church Secretaries will hold its annual Missouri State Chapter Conference at Woods Chapel UMC in Lee’s Summit on August 24-26. Registration has been extended to August 8. The brochure is found on the Conference website. Just go to the site www.moumethodist.org, then Resources, then PAUMCS where you will also find additional information on the state and national PAUMCS chapters.

Friday afternoon’s keynote speaker, Ms. Sue Thompson, author of The Ministry of Administrative Assistants, has served 16 years as the Executive Assistant to Rev. Adam Hamilton. Her presentation titled “Partners in Ministry” will provide guiding principles for those who provide administrative support to ministry leaders in any church setting, large or small.

Saturday morning, Heartland Central District Superintendent Rev. Yolanda Villa will discuss learning to say yes and say no within appropriate boundaries. Saturday afternoon, Conference Director Rev. Kendall Waller will discuss “How Little Things Make a Big Difference” in relation to reporting and accounting.

Also on Friday afternoon, there will be a presentation by Ms. Judy Akers, Director of Della Lamb Community Services, as well as a performance by the Children’s Choir of this connectional ministry that has been serving low income Kansas City families since 1897. Following dinner, Rev. Gina Kennedy, one of the associate pastors at Woods Chapel, will give an overview of the inspiring John Ortberg book, The Me I Want to Be. On Saturday afternoon there will be a time for fun when Ms. Jan Brothers, a certified laughter leader, leads a mind-bodyspirit program of gentle exercises, breathing, stretching, and camaraderie designed to relieve stress and improve self-confidence and enthusiasm.

The Conference will end with dinner on Saturday at Rumors Steakhouse followed by free time to explore Kansas City, shop, or just rest. On Sunday morning, those who wish to worship together as a group will attend the 9:05am service at Woods Chapel.

As a mission project for this Conference, participants are asked to bring a book (or several books) for donation to the multiracial pre-K through 7th grade library at Della Lamb.

This event is an excellent opportunity for continuing education and is open to all church secretaries and other interested church staff persons. In addition to education, it is also an opportunity to enjoy fellowship and collaboration with other church staff persons throughout Missouri. Register today and “Get Connected…”!
