Mozambique Coordinator Missionary Support

This opportunity provides United Methodist congregations, church groups and individuals the means to directly support the Mozambique Initiative Coordinator missionary.
About the Mozambique Initiative
The Mozambique Initiative gives assistance to current and retired pastors and their families, supports humanitarian projects such as safe water, malaria prevention, provides leadership development opportunities for seminary students. MI also allows for a cultural exchange and strengthening of relationships between churches in Mozambique and the United States, transforming lives in both places.
Why we need the support
In 2007 the Missouri Conference’s Vital Ministries budget, one of the sources of support for the missionary/coordinator position held by Carol Kreamer, was ended. The Mozambique Initiative now counts on 10% of the church covenants plus direct covenant support from churches, families and individuals to maintain her vital position.
The blessing it gives
Hundreds of individuals, groups and churches have been blessed by the 20+ year partnership between the Missouri Conference and the UMC in Mozambique.
In the past decade, more than 700 congregations, groups and individuals in Missouri have joined in covenant partnerships, about 120 seminary students have been educated through covenant relationships with Missouri churches and families, more than 50 team leaders have been trained and 56 mission teams (more than 450 short-term missionaries) have visited Mozambique.
The Missionary
The success of the Mozambique Initiative would not be possible without missionary and coordinator Carol Kreamer. From the beginning Carol has tirelessly served and provides day-to-day and strategic leadership. Despite the barriers of geography, language, culture and economics, Carol makes sure that the goals of the Mozambique Initiative are accomplished, and 2009 marks her 10th year of service to MI.
Through her experience and dedication, Carol faithfully:
- Connects churches, groups and individuals in Missouri with churches, missions and ministries in Mozambique.
- Establishes strong relationships with Mozambique Conference staff and leaders.
- Shares her expert knowledge of Mozambique’s geography, economics, languages, culture and United Methodist Church practices.
- Trains and equips MI staff in Mozambique.
- Trains Mozambique accounting and finance personnel and provides detailed oversight of fund accounting and management there and in Missouri.
- Trains all Volunteers in Mission leaders and helps coordinate all teams and groups to Mozambique.
- Advocates for an independent and self-sufficient church in Mozambique.
- Moves quickly to gain emergency relief in Mozambique in times of floods, hurricanes and other disasters.
- Advocates for legislation in the fight against global poverty.
- Raises funds for the MI, including church and seminary student covenants and more.
