archive--Mozambique Consultation
The fourth Mozambique Initiative Consultation (MIC IV) was held on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Community United Methodist Church in Columbia, Missouri. The event included participation by seven top church leaders from the UMC in Mozambique as well as about 100 participants from Missouri and beyond.
The purposes of the Consultation were:
- To further mutual mission and ministry with the UMC in Mozambique;
- To learn more about covenant partnership with churches and students in Mozambique; and
- To share experiences and insights with persons from Mozambique and in mission and ministry to Mozambique.
Bishop Schnase addressed the Consultation to open the event and seven United Methodist Church leaders from Mozambique led worship in the spirit of Mozambique. They also facilitated workshops on several different topics including covenant partnership with churches, with seminary students and with retired pastors, and workshops on VIM, leadership development, Living Water (Wells) Society, Women's Society and more. Habitat for Humanity International's Jose Villasenor for HFHI's Global Church Partners was on hand working with Mozambique and Missouri VIM Coordinators.
Guests from Mozambique included North Conference Council on Ministries Director the Rev. Jacob Jenhuro, South Conference Council on Ministries Director the Rev. Xavier Guambe, Women's Society President Maria Garrine, Women's Society Executive Secretary the Rev. Telma Eduardo, VIM Coordinator Naftal Massela, Living Water Society Coordinator Benedita Penicela, and Mozambique Initiative Representative Ezequiel Nhantumbo. It was an opportunity for everyone to meet this wonderful group of leaders and network with others involved in mission and ministry with The United Methodist Church in Mozambique.
A Missouri UMW dinner event, with the Mozambique Women's Society guests speaking, was held at Fairview UMC following the Consultation.
